Building Resilient Nations for the Next Generation
Continuous sustainable growth requires stability vis a vis peace, safety, security, and harmony. Hence it is vital for Nations to build resilience for their survivability and future generations. Bearing the theme of ‘Building Resilient Nations for The Next Generation’ for the upcoming edition, this strategic platform serves as an arena for decision-makers to discuss critical issues and formulate the best options that would ensure the stability of our future generations.
“All Nations aspire to progress and develop. Defence and security must be seen as an investment. Only Nations that invest strategically in their defence and homeland security will produce credible forces that can continuously protect their sovereignty and maintain law and order for their people to live a peaceful life and enjoy economic prosperity.” DSA Executive Director, Mr. Nadzeem Abdul Rahman gave his comment on the foreword objective of the next edition’s theme selection during the Malaysian Pavilion Launching at Defense and Security, Bangkok.
Platform to Forge Resilience
In the recent budget announcement for 2024, the Malaysian government announced an increase in Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs allocation to strengthen the level of defense readiness and national security. The Malaysia Ministry of Defense has been allocated RM19.7 billion (US$4.37 billion) in the 2024 Budget announced today, an increase of RM2 billion compared to 2023 which will see the armed forces procure new assets. This includes 12 new helicopters for the Royal Malaysian Air Force, significant additions for the Malaysian Army, such as 60 infantry fighting vehicles, 50 High Mobility Light Tactical Vehicles (HMLTV), six Hovercraft Integrated Fast Interceptors, and 733 support vehicles. Additionally, the plan involves crucial maintenance for two submarines, the continuation of the acquisition of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy, and the replacement of outdated assets with seven twin-engine aircraft and 5 light helicopters for the Royal Malaysian Police.
In parallel, the government is fortifying maritime security by acquiring 45 diverse types of boats for the Malaysian Army and nine cutting-edge patrol vessels. This initiative extends to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), which will enhance border and maritime security by procuring nine new patrol boats, further reinforcing efficiency and control at international entry points.
